If you’re looking for a scenic campground with plenty of outdoor activities, Silver Springs State Park is a great option. Located in Ocala, Florida, this park is home to the famous Silver Springs, a collection of crystal-clear springs that have been attracting visitors for over a century. But that’s not all there is to see and do here – read on for our campground review and kayaking adventure at Silver Springs State Park.
Campground Review: Site 43
During our stay at Silver Springs State Park, we parked our Winnebago Minnie Winnie 31k at site 43. This site was spacious and well-maintained, with plenty of shade and privacy from neighboring sites. The site was equipped with water and electric hookups, a fire pit, and a picnic table. One thing we really loved was the Amazon Fire Stick. Although we did not have free internet, we used our iphone hot spot and still had a great resolution.
One of the highlights of this campground is its proximity to the Silver River, which offers plenty of opportunities for outdoor recreation. We brought our kayaks and launched them right from the campground, paddling downstream to explore the surrounding forests and wetlands. Along the way, we spotted countless alligators basking in the sun on the riverbanks, but we never felt threatened by them. In fact, it was thrilling to observe these creatures in their natural habitat from a safe distance.
Kayaking on the Silver River
Kayaking on the Silver River was one of the best experiences we had at Silver Springs State Park. The river is clear and calm, with plenty of twists and turns to keep things interesting. We passed by towering cypress trees, graceful egrets, and even a family of playful river otters. The highlight, of course, was seeing the alligators up close – some were just a few feet away from our kayaks! It was a truly unforgettable experience that we’ll cherish forever.
Overall, we had a wonderful time at Silver Springs State Park. The campground was clean, quiet, and well-maintained, with plenty of amenities to make our stay comfortable. The proximity to the Silver River was a major plus, and we highly recommend renting kayaks to explore this unique ecosystem. While the alligators may seem intimidating at first, they’re a vital part of the natural world here and shouldn’t deter you from enjoying all that Silver Springs State Park has to offer.
